Basildon Park and Nuffield Place
Wednesday 11 October 2017

The first visit of the day is to Basildon Park, set in 400 acres of parkland near Pangbourne.  The Georgian mansion was onece owned by Lord and Lady Liffe, who resurrected the house from its dreadful state after the second world war.  We will have time to explore the Park before a free-flow visit of the house.  After lunch at Basildon we will travel to Nuffield Place, the home of Lord Nuffield between 1933 and 1963.  He was a most successful businessman and a generous philanthropist.  He built up the Morris Motor Company from small beginnings to become one of Britain's major car manufacturers.  The house is a perfect time capsule of the period when the Nuffields lived there.  The garden is inspired by the Arts and Craft design of the house.  Both houses belong to the National Trust.

Booking for this visit opens on 17 May 2017.  There are still 4 places available on this tour (as at 14 August 2017)
